Geoff Greenfield, President
Third Sun Solar founder and co-owner Geoff Greenfield serves as President of the firm. Geoff has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Miami University and a Masters in International Development with a focus on project administration from Ohio University. He was a member of the inaugural NABCEP certification in 2003 and successfully renewed his credentials in 2006 and in 2009. Before entering the renewable energy sector, Geoff’s background included affordable housing development, non-profit management and business administration. He is proud to have served in the U.S. Peace Corps building water systems in Central Africa. Geoff is a sought-after public speaker, a consultant to investment firms in the clean technology sector, and lives in a solar- and wind-powered home.

Michelle Greenfield, CEO
Co-owner Michelle Greenfield serves as the CEO of Third Sun Solar. Michelle has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Miami University and a Masters in International Economic Development with a focus on small business from Ohio University. Before joining Third Sun Solar, she worked from 1994 until 2001 in the field of small business development and finance, as well as non-profit development.

Joseph Viny, Vice President of Business Development
Joe Viny serves as Vice President of Business Development. Joe has a J.D. from George Washington University and an M.B.A. with honors from The American Graduate School of International Management. In addition to practicing law, Joe has a diverse range of business experience, including industrial and infrastructure sales (B2B and international governmental sectors), as well as business development, management and restructuring.

Mark Guess, VP of Operations
Mark Guess serves as Vice President of Operations for Third Sun Solar. Mark has an extensive background as Chief Operations Officer and VP of Industrial Controls and Instrumentation for two national contracting firms, both of which saw annual revenues in the hundreds of millions during his tenure. In these positions, Guess was instrumental in strategic operational planning, business development, and mentoring general managers. As COO, Guess spearheaded progress toward more decentralized building cycle models and enacted operational controls that led to dramatic advances in quality, safety, speed, and operational performance. With a sharp focus on customer experience, Mark is a champion of site safety and smooth, reliable, top-quality electrical system installations. He had a proven track record of on-time, on-budget performance. Mark’s educational background includes civil engineering, executive training, and project management coursework at the University of Toledo.

John Fanselow, Senior Project Developer
John Fanselow serves as Senior Project Developer for the Third Sun Solar Cincinnati Office. John has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the College of Wooster and a Masters of Science in Materials Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has enjoyed a varied career, including renewable energy promotion and advocacy, commercial aviation (pilot and instructor), and materials science research. John has extensive travel and cross-cultural experience, and has served in the U.S. Peace Corps teaching physics and math in Cameroon, West Africa.
Following a long career with AT&T Bell Labs and Lucent Technologies, Tim came to us with a deep interest in solar energy and skills in electrical layout, system design and maintenance. His previous work on data acquisition projects for Bell Labs and Lucent helped him transition easily to his role at Third Sun Solar, where he serves as a Project Specialist with a focus on PV solar monitoring systems, setup and maintenance. As part of that role, Tim seeks to optimize the energy flow from PV solar installations and provide monitoring data so that customers can see what their system is producing at any time. Naturally, there is a strong customer education element in that, and Tim enjoys the process of getting systems set up and working, then showing customers how they can keep themselves informed of their system’s production.

Debbie Seyfang, Controller
Debbie serves as Third Sun Solar’s Controller, managing a staff of accounting specialists and ensuring compliance with generally-accepted accounting principles and practices. Debbie manages lines of credit with our bank as well as vendors, and ensures that our financial basis remains strong. Debbie has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and has worked in the energy field for several businesses, large and small, including service with American Electric Power.

Jamey Jones, Inside Sales Specialist
Jamey Jones serves as Inside Sales Specialist with Third Sun Solar, where she is the first point of contact for sales inquires. Jamey develops residential projects and serves as the liaison between Third Sun Solar and the Public Utilities Commission to procure certification for our customers’ renewable energy installation to maximize their SREC income. Jamey is an Ohio University graduate with a Bachelors Degree in English Creative Writing. Her self starting-self managing practices allowed her to work independently for eight years offering health, wellness and nutrition services to the Athens community along with operating and managing a small, private landscaping business for three years with a local client base that included two Ohio University Sororities using organic practices. Jamey has five years experience working with adults with development disabilities as Lead Production Artist with Passion Works Studio, an affiliate of ACTO, where she also assisted with grant writing to secure continued funding for visiting artists through the Ohio Arts Council.

Randy Hatch, Engineering Manager
Randy Hatch serves as Engineering Manager for Third Sun Solar. Randy holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University and received his NABCEP certification in 2008 and his LEED AP in 2009. His technical knowledge of renewable energy is a result of his years of research, training, and direct experience. In addition to electronics, he has experience in general construction and served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Madagascar, working on water quality projects and environmental issues.

Gerald Kelly, Director of Communications
Gerald Kelly serves as Communications Director for Third Sun Solar. Jerry is a graduate of Kenyon College, with a background in technical writing for such companies as Canon USA, AT&T Labs, Computer Associates International, Linotype and Covidea. He has also completed projects for Apple Computer, NetJets, LexisNexis, and others. Jerry’s role at Third Sun Solar is to enhance communication with customers and to ensure that the Third Sun Solar brand and reputation reflect the true nature of the company.

Peter Kachenko, Project Manager
Peter Kachenko serves as Project Manager for Third Sun Solar. Peter received his NABCEP certification in 2008 after working for several years as a field installer and field manager. He has a background in natural resource management and construction, and has been with Third Sun Solar since 2005. Peter lives in the Athens area.
Cathy Gielty serves as Accounts Receivable and Compliance Specialist for Third Sun Solar. She handles all billing and reporting for state and federal grant programs, and also provides PV solar system production reporting—one of the free services we provide to our customers for 12 months following system installation. Cathy works closely with our Operations Group on contract and billing management, change orders, waivers, and providing all documentation needed by our customers. She holds an Associates degree in Natural Resources Management from Hocking College, and has prior experience working with the Oglebay Institute in Wheeling, WV as Assistant Director for Environmental Education.
The remaining staff at Third Sun Solar includes an Operations team that manages procurement, logistics and installation; an Administration team that manages accounting, contracts and the grant/rebate process; and the Project Development team, which offers support throughout the state to assist our customers in receiving the most optimal solar power system possible for their site.
