Many people ask us about the name, Third Sun Solar. What does it mean? Where did it come from? Well, the name has two sources.

While Third Sun Solar has grown far beyond our initial “mom and pop” beginnings, we did indeed start out as just that—a mom and pop. We created Third Sun Solar while raising our two young boys. We found the creation, nurturing and development of the business to be very much like our shared life with our children, and since both children were boys, our fledgling company was like raising a third son.

The second source for the name was a book—Jeremy Rifkin’s Entropy. In it, Rifkin holds that all earthly energy derives originally from the sun. The first solar age ended as the last forests were cut; industrializing societies evolved from biomass fuel to fossil fuel—coal, and then oil—in the second solar age. Now, we are seeing the dawn of a transition to direct solar power—our third solar age. For us, it was another inspiration for Third Sun Solar.

Today, we strive every day to make the name Third Sun Solar synonymous with quality, integrity, and service. We are proud of the business that we have “raised” over the years—as we are of our growing boys.
